The Arabic name of Surah Al-Inshiqaq is الإنشقاق. Al-Inshiqaq means “The Splitting Asunder”, referring to the sky splitting apart, as mentioned in the first verse. It is a Makki surah, revealed in Makkah before the Prophet’s migration to Madinah. It came early in Makkah, when the message was being openly rejected but persecution had not yet started. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 83 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah Al-Mutaffifin and before Surah Al-Buruj.
The surah describes the Resurrection and reminds people that every soul is journeying towards its Lord.
