The Arabic name of Surah Al-Hadeed is الحديد, also written Al-Hadid. Al-Hadid means “Iron”. The name comes from verse 25, which mentions that Allah sent down iron. It is a Madani surah, revealed after the Prophet’s migration to Madinah. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 94 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah Al-Waqi’ah and before Surah Al-Mujadila.
The surah was revealed to encourage the Muslims of Madinah to give generously and to understand that real faith shows itself in sacrifice.
