Ash-Sharh means “The Expansion” or, as quran.com puts it, “The Relief”. It is also known as Al-Inshirah or Alam Nashrah, and it is named after its first sentence about the Prophet’s chest being expanded. It belongs to the Makki surahs, the chapters revealed in Makkah before the Hijrah. According to Ibn Abbas, it was revealed in Makkah just after Surah Ad-Duha. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 12 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah Ad-Duhaa and before Surah At-Tin.
The surah reassures the Prophet that relief accompanies hardship and that Allah had already blessed him greatly.
