About Surah Al-Mutaffifin
The Arabic name of Surah Al-Mutaffifin is المطففين. Al-Mutaffifin means “Those Who Give Short Measure” (quran.com: “The Defrauding”). The name comes from the first verse. It is a Makki surah, revealed in Makkah before the Prophet’s migration to Madinah. The notes place it in the earliest Makkan stage, when Muslims were mocked in public but physical persecution had not yet begun. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 86 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah Al-Infitar and before Surah Al-Inshiqaq.
