The Arabic name of Surah Al-Hashar is الحشر, also written Al-Hashr. Al-Hashr means “The Exile” or “The Gathering”. The word appears early in the surah in connection with the expulsion of the Banu an-Nadir from Madinah. It belongs to the Madani surahs, the chapters revealed in Madinah after the Hijrah. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 101 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah Al-Mujadila and before Surah Al-Mumtahanah.
The surah reviews the campaign against the Banu an-Nadir and draws lasting lessons from it for the Muslim community.
