The Arabic name of Surah An-Najm is النجم. An-Najm means “The Star”. The name comes from the opening oath and serves as a title rather than a summary of the content. The surah has 62 verses in total. It is a Makki surah, revealed in Makkah before the Prophet’s migration to Madinah. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 23 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah At-Tur and before Surah Al-Qamar.
The surah warns the disbelievers of Makkah about their attitude towards the Quran and the Prophet, and contrasts revealed knowledge with invented beliefs.
