The Arabic name of Surah At-Toor is الطور, also written At-Tur. At-Tur means “The Mount”. The surah opens with an oath by the Mount, and the name comes from that first word. It was revealed in Makkah, so it is counted among the Makki surahs. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 76 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah Adh-Dhariyat and before Surah An-Najm.
Revealed in the middle Makkan period, it pairs a powerful description of the Hereafter with a response to the Quraysh leaders’ campaign against the Prophet.
