About Surah At-Teen

The Arabic name of Surah At-Teen is التين, also written At-Tin. At-Tin means “The Fig”. The surah opens with an oath by the fig and the olive. Its notes say most scholars regard it as Makki, and quran.com classifies it that way. The notes point to its mention of “this secure city”, meaning Makkah, as a sign of its Makkan origin. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 28 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah Ash-Sharh and before Surah Al-’Alaq.

Main Themes of Surah At-Teen

The surah’s theme is reward and recompense in the Hereafter, built on the honour with which Allah created human beings.
