The Arabic name of Surah Al-Muzammil is المزمل, also written Al-Muzzammil. Al-Muzzammil means “The One Wrapped in Garments” (quran.com: “The Enshrouded One”). The name is taken from the first verse and is a name rather than a summary of the content. It belongs to the Makki surahs, the chapters revealed in Makkah before the Hijrah. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 3 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah Al-Jinn and before Surah Al-Muddaththir.
One of the earliest revelations, the surah prepares the Prophet spiritually for the weight of his mission.
