The Arabic name of Surah Al-Meaarij is المعارج, also written Al-Ma’arij. Al-Ma’arij means “The Ascending Stairways” or “The Ways of Ascent”. The name comes from verse 3, which describes Allah as the Owner of the ways of ascent. It was revealed in Makkah, so it is counted among the Makki surahs.
