The Arabic name of Surah Al-Kausar is الكوثر, also written Al-Kawthar. Al-Kawthar means “Abundance” or abundant good. The word appears in the first verse. Most commentators regard it as Makki, which is how quran.com lists it, though some early scholars considered it Madani. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 15 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah Al-Ma’un and before Surah Al-Kafirun.
The shortest surah of the Quran, it brought comfort and good news to the Prophet at a difficult time.
