The Arabic name of Surah Al-Kafirun is الكافرون. Al-Kafirun means “The Disbelievers”. The word appears in the first verse. The majority of commentators regard it as Makki, as quran.com does, though a few early reports call it Madani. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 18 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah Al-Kawthar and before Surah An-Nasr.
The surah draws a clear line between faith and disbelief in matters of worship.
