The Arabic name of Surah Quraish is قريش, also written Quraysh. Quraysh is the name of the leading tribe of Makkah. The tribe is mentioned in the first verse. It is a Makki surah, revealed in Makkah before the Prophet’s migration to Madinah. Most commentators regard it as Makki, pointing to the words “Lord of this House”, and its subject is closely tied to Surah Al-Fil. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 29 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah Al-Fil and before Surah Al-Ma’un.
The surah reminds Quraysh of the favours they enjoyed because of the Ka’bah and calls them to worship its Lord.
