The Arabic name of Surah Ar-Rahmaan is الرحمن, also written Ar-Rahman. Ar-Rahman means “The Most Merciful” (quran.com renders it “The Beneficent”). The surah begins with this name of Allah, and from start to finish it describes the signs of His mercy and grace. quran.com lists it as Madani, although its chapter notes say most commentators regard it as Makki. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 97 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah Al-Qamar and before Surah Al-Waqi’ah.
