The Arabic name of Surah Al-Hujurat is الحجرات. Al-Hujurat means “The Private Rooms”. The name comes from verse 4, which mentions the private apartments of the Prophet (peace be upon him). It was revealed in Madinah, so it is counted among the Madani surahs. The notes explain that it brings together instructions revealed on different occasions, most of them in the final stage of the Prophet’s life in Madinah. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 106 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah Al-Fath and before Surah Qaf.
This short Madani surah is a guide to the manners of true believers, both towards the Messenger and towards one another in community life.
