The Arabic name of Surah Al-Qariah is القارعة. Al-Qari’ah means “The Striking Calamity”, a name for the Day of Resurrection. It is both the surah’s name and its subject. It was revealed in Makkah, so it is counted among the Makki surahs. There is no disagreement that it is Makki, and it is among the earliest surahs revealed there. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 30 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah Al-’Adiyat and before Surah At-Takathur.
The surah is devoted to the Day of Resurrection and the weighing of deeds.
