The Arabic name of Surah Al-Mulk is الملك. Al-Mulk means “The Sovereignty” or “The Dominion”. The name comes from the very first sentence of the surah. It was revealed in Makkah, so it is counted among the Makki surahs. Its style marks it as one of the earliest surahs revealed in Makkah. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 77 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah At-Tahrim and before Surah Al-Qalam.
Like other early Makkan surahs, it presents the core teachings of Islam briefly and urges people to wake up from heedlessness.
