The Arabic name of Surah Abas is عبس, also written ’Abasa. ’Abasa means “He Frowned”. The name comes from the word with which the surah opens. It is a Makki surah, revealed in Makkah before the Prophet’s migration to Madinah. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 24 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah An-Nazi’at and before Surah At-Takwir.
