The Arabic name of Surah Al-Fatiha is الفاتحة, also written Al-Fatihah. Al-Fatihah means “The Opener”. It is named for its role: it opens the Quran in the way a preface opens a book. It is the first chapter of the Quran and has 7 verses. It was revealed in Makkah, so it is counted among the Makki surahs. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 5 of 114. The chapter notes describe it as one of the earliest revelations and the first complete surah to be revealed. It is found in Juz 1. In the Mushaf it is followed by Surah Al-Baqarah.
In only seven verses, Al-Fatihah gathers praise of Allah, a pledge of worship and a request for guidance, which is why it stands at the very start of the Quran.
