The Arabic name of Surah Al-Buruj is البروج. Al-Buruj means “The Great Constellations” (quran.com: “The Mansions of the Stars”). The name comes from the first verse. It was revealed in Makkah, so it is counted among the Makki surahs. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 27 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah Al-Inshiqaq and before Surah At-Tariq.
The surah was revealed to strengthen believers facing persecution and to warn those who persecuted them.
