The Arabic name of Surah Al-Mudassir is المدثر, also written Al-Muddaththir. Al-Muddaththir means “The One Covered in a Cloak”. The name is taken from the first verse and is a name, not a title of the content. It is a Makki surah, revealed in Makkah before the Prophet’s migration to Madinah. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 4 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah Al-Muzzammil and before Surah Al-Qiyamah.
Among the earliest revelations, the surah marks the moment the Prophet was commanded to begin warning people openly.
