The Arabic name of Surah Al-A'ala is الأعلى, also written Al-A’la. Al-A’la means “The Most High”. The name comes from the first verse, which calls for glorifying the name of the Lord Most High. It belongs to the Makki surahs, the chapters revealed in Makkah before the Hijrah. In the revelation-order list used by quran.com, it is number 8 of 114. In the order of the Mushaf it comes after Surah At-Tariq and before Surah Al-Ghashiyah.
